Dear friends I would like to ask for help with vent/and teamspeak.it seems more and more groups use vent/TS,I have been trying to get it so I would be able to get in these groups in DOA.

I have had no luck on figureing out how and what to do in such matters,so if you would be so kind in maybe explaining it to me and the other people that are having the same problem.

If it wouldn't be to much trouble,please explain how and what version of vent/ts to download and where to get it.Next explain to us how to use it.I believe after a few post from you,we will have this problem solved and many of us out there that been having this problem will be able to join you on some magnifesent adventures.

I would like to thank all that contribute to this indever before hand,by the way this is my first post so be kind.

Well I have been using Vent recently, so I will outline how to get started on that.

First, head over to www.ventrilo.com and download yourself the most updated CLIENT version.

Next, boot up the software and familiarize yourself with the screen. In the upper part you will see a white box titled user name with a clickable arrow to its right. Go ahead and click the arrow. Your user name doesn't matter, but make it either your game name or first name if you are on that basis with the people on the server

Now move down to the server box and click into it. Click new and enter any name you want. Next, in the hostname or ip box, put in the ip address given to you by the owner of the server you wish to access. In the box below (Port Number) enter the number they provide. Only put in a password if they tell you, and don't worry about default channel unless they specify.

You should be ready to go now! Accept everything and click on connect, and if you have done everything correctly (or I haven't made any mistakes) you will be granted access to the Vent server.

I've been using Teamspeak for years and it has worked awesomely. It doesn't use up a lot of resources and bandwidth, the channel system is easy to navigate, and I have never had any problems with it.

People (mostly Vent fanboys) seem to claim TS's voice quality is bad. The reality is that it's almost entirely dependant on your microphone and your connection: the better your microphone, the clearer you will sound.

You can find the download section from the link on the upper left hand of the site, or http://ventrilo.com/download.php

You will want to download the Windows Client Platform version 2.3.0 - this should be the first download on the page.

Setup instructions can be found from the setup link on the upper left hand of the site, or http://ventrilo.com/setup.php

Setup is simple. Once you have installed the Ventrilo client, run the program. In the interface, you will see three rows on top with dropdown menues titled User Name, Server, and Bindings.

Click the -> button next to User Name, click New, and enter what you wish your name to be. Finish by clicking OK. Although this can be anything you awnt, it is recomended that you use your character name.

Click the -> button next to Server, click New, and inter the name of the server. The server name can be anything you want, but it is recomended that you use something that will inform you what this particular server is for, such as the guild's name, DoA, temp, ect.

Once you have obtained the ventrilo information for the server you are using (usualy given during group formation for high end areas), you will enter the address or ip given in the 'Hostname or Ip' line, and the port number in the 'Port number' line. Unless given a password or default channel, ignore these. Click OK.

Ignore the Bindings row for now - it is not needed.

Click the Connect button on the upper right side of the Ventrilo client - if everything was intered in correctly, you will now connect to the server being used for whatever you are doing.

Now you should be ready to go - however it is recomended that you enter the setup section (setup button on the right side), and create a Push-to-Talk hotkey, as well as adjust the volume (Outbound and Inbound under Amplifiers - lower right hand setup section, voice tab).

Srry if I posted in the wrong forum. I think I understand now what to do.I have another question.Now this may sound like noob question,but I have never used microphone headset to talk on the computer.so here it goes.

Do I have to have my head set pluged in to the computer when I log on to GW,or is there some way to switch from mic to speakers without loging in and out?

Also is there any public severs on vent to use,if me and a buddy wants to trap in DOA?

Will some one explain Team Speak as well as you have on vent.

PS...... What key would be the best for hot key to talk?

This is false. A vast majority of TS servers (read: every single one I've ever been on) use a terrible codec to save bandwidth--it doesn't matter how good your mic is if the server is set to a shitty codec, which they always are.

Vent is quite literally better than TS. Smaller program, less memory and bandwidth usage, and vastly easier to use.
